Double Mills records

Double Mills records document the restoration and preservation of the historic mill located near Mardela Springs, Md. The materials date from 1988-1996, with the bulk of the material dating from 1988-1991. The records encompass the restoration activities and efforts of Double Mills, Inc., and the Double Mills Preservation Foundation. These efforts are documented through correspondence, fundraising records, architectural drawings, maps, easement agreements, newspaper clippings, and photographs. In addition to the Double Mill records are photographs of the Rewastico Mill located in Hebron, Maryland.

Folklife Collection - The Oral History of the Mardela Indian Spring

Fred Bradley Family papers

Also included is a copy of the Kangaroo Komplete Kompound brochure circa 1892, a type of farmer’s manure almanac.

M. Drue Gillis papers

The M. Drue Gillis papers contains autobiographical information on the life of M. Drue Gillis. Gillis was from Mardela Springs, Maryland. Gillis was a pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber during World War II, and had been shot down over Stettin, Germany. He spent the remainder of the war as a Prisoner of War (POW) in German camp Stalag 17B in Austria. He documented his survival in the camp with multiple diary entries, included in the collection.

Taylor Family Correspondence

Taylor Family Correspondence contains letters from both Lizzie M. Taylor, and John B. Taylor from 1900 to 1937. The subjects of the letters include Lizzie Taylor's career as an elementary teacher at the Savage school, an invitation to Myra Ann Bennett's wedding, property tax receipts from Salisbury, and a payment booklet from the Feldman Brothers located in Salisbury, Maryland. Also in the collection are postcards from Taylor's relatives, a newspaper clipping announcing the wedding of their daughter Kay Taylor, and photographs of Lizzie Taylor and unidentified family members.

Wilson Family House Photograph

On the back of the photograph it is written that the home was built in the late 18th or early 19th century and was known as the Thomas Wilson place until the Bounds family purchased it in the 1970s.
